Chamber Holds Annual Meeting, Announces New Board Members

OKLAHOMA CITY, Dec. 11, 2014 – The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber celebrated its 125th year and 2014 accomplishments on Thursday, Dec. 11, during its Annual Meeting, attended by more than 1,000 members and guests.

The organization’s 2013-2014 Chairman, Pete Delaney, chairman and CEO of OGE Energy Corp., passed the gavel to the 2015 Chairman, David E. Rainbolt, CEO of BancFirst Corp.

In addition, the Chamber has announced its new board members for 2015. They are listed below.

At the meeting, Delaney praised the transformation and growth of the Oklahoma City area over the last two years, citing its strong GDP growth, income and employment growth, noting that Oklahoma City is among a handful of cities leading the nation in these categories.

“This is the result of years of hard work from many quarters, including the Chamber and many others in this room, that have worked selflessly to create the platform for economic growth that is the envy of many – and one that we are seeing pay off,” Delaney said at the meeting.

Rainbolt mentioned the partnerships that have created these successes – among members of city government, elected state and local officials and members of the business community. Leaders of Tinker Air Force Base and the city’s aerospace industry are also crucial partners as well, he said.

“Oklahoma City is not large enough, we do not have enough capital to endure the inefficiency of infighting,” Rainbolt said. “The clear theme for our success, looking back or going forward, in any economic cycle, continues to be partnership and collaboration.”

Rainbolt and Delaney also mentioned the importance of a strong educational system as essential to Oklahoma City’s success in the years to come.

“There is not a community in America that has figured out how to solve this dilemma – but just because it is hard, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t pursue solutions,” Rainbolt said in calling for collaboration with new Oklahoma City Public Schools Superintendent Robert Neu. “There is no one answer – charter schools, vouchers, increased funding, rigorous standards, district consolidation, testing – none alone are magic bullets.  But allowing Oklahoma’s system to slip even further is not acceptable.  An ill-prepared workforce, an education system out of alignment with society’s needs will end our renaissance more permanently than commodity fluctuations.”

The meeting ended with the debut of a new video celebrating the “125 Things We Love About Oklahoma City.” See the video online at
