The Oklahoma City Council voted unanimously today to apply for a $17 million federal grant with hopes of building a $26 million MAPS 3 transportation hub at the site of the historic Santa Fe Depot.

The vote came after Doug Tennant, a Senior Planner with the Dallas based Jacobs Engineering firm explained the city would learn either late this year or early in 2012 whether it would receive the funds. Council members supported the project but councilman Pete White noted the size of the site depends on narrowing Gaylor Boulevard between the rail depot and the Cox Convention center. He suggested it is a project that should be kept on the front burner and Mayor Mick Cornett agreed.
