New TBS Factoring Service Workspace Puts Imagination in the Driver’s Seat

TBS Factoring Service is making fun and community service a priority, for some very good reasons.

On Thursday, September 28th, the Chamber helped the 50-year-old homegrown company cut the ribbon on its new 52,000 square foot headquarters at 7800 NW 85th Terrace.

The new space has some surprising and entertaining features, including:

  • Big Wheels, and scooters, and bikes . . . oh my! The open workspace covers a lot of real estate. TBS, which provides compliance and cash flow solutions to motor carriers, has “paved” the perimeter with a custom carpeted highway — complete with a yellow center line — and offers a fleet of human-powered vehicles to really get things rolling.
  • Ample barking. On Fridays, associates are encouraged to bring their dogs to work.
  • A conference room with no conference table.  The “Vault” room, with one wall dominated by a giant red arrow, eschews “head of the table” hierarchy and encourages collaboration by allowing groups to arrange themselves in whatever configuration works best for their purpose. Chairs have tablet arms to facilitate note taking.
  • No branding in the break room. Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and nobody is trying to sell you anything. At TBS, break rooms for breaks, not branding.
  • Full (community) service Garage. TBS has been a part of the Oklahoma City community since 1968, and community service is part of the company’s DNA. The company has long been a big supporter of Junior Achievement and the Regional Food Bank. At its new headquarters, TBS will expand its community outreach by making its largest meeting room (The Garage), with roll-up doors that open to a patio and a capacity of 200 people, available to local 501(c)3 organizations, and offering gratis refreshments.
  • Hardball - big or small.Associates can putt or shoot their way through mental block on an indoor putting green and basketball court.
  • Chillax.Three massage chairs are just the ticket for this hard-working crew.

And that's just the beginning. Plans for next year include a two-story beach-themed employee restaurant with an outdoor pier and pontoon-boat pavilion, and a technology development center with flexible work stations.

TBS President Jennifer Fogg says the workspace transformation is part of the company’s evolution from its roots as a transportation service company into a technology platform providing financial and business services to a broad range of clients.

“Everybody works extremely hard here, but there’s no reason we can’t have fun doing it,” says Fogg. “A lot of workspaces are, frankly, boring. We wanted to create an environment that stimulates the imagination. That’s where big ideas come from.”

To celebrate the company’s new pet-friendly workplace, TBS raised more than $6,500 for the Central Oklahoma Humane Society, including almost $1,500 from a recent fund raiser in which associates paid to throw pies at senior management.
