The signs were all there, really, looking back—let's start with the city's outsized love of public art, best represented by the sweeping Skydance Bridge, completed in 2012 to connect two pieces of a massive, highly-programmed urban park (now under construction) designed to connect Oklahoma City's quickly regenerating downtown down toward the Oklahoma River.

Oklahoma City has enjoyed a tremendous renaissance over the last 20 years. And it all came from community support. Because voters approved sales tax measures, including MAPS projects, we not have a world-class riverfront, fantastic baseball stadium, improved fairgrounds, updated schools and many other attractions.

OKLAHOMA City voters will vote next Tuesday on an extension of the MAPS sales tax, a 10-year bond package, and a new quarter-penny sales tax intended to bolster the police and fire departments. The Oklahoman encourages “yes” votes across the board.

You can't miss Oklahoma City's progress during the past three decades. Children can't remember living in a city without NBA MVP winners, a thriving Bricktown, spectacular libraries, an eclectic food scene, the Devon Tower and Olympians training on the Oklahoma River. But as hard as Oklahoma City has tried, street quality hasn't kept up with the rest of our success. It's been our residents' top concern on our annual survey.
