Protecting big OKC events

The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber is working with the National Rifle Association, the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association and other stakeholders to offer legislation during the 2016 session to expand and clarify existing gun laws.  However, in doing so it is vital that we protect events that significantly benefit Oklahoma’s economy - and that includes more than 20 gun shows held each year at State Fair Park.

We are supporters of the 2nd Amendment and are not seeking to limit the rights of gun owners. Many of the events hosted in Oklahoma City contractually require a limitation on weapons at the venue, and if they are not able to do so, they will take their business to another state. These events contribute hundreds of millions of dollars annually to Oklahoma City’s economy and we compete nationally for the honor of hosting them. Our goal is to protect 2nd Amendment rights without losing a number of high-economic impact events such as horse shows and NCAA/Big XII sporting events, including the NCAA Women’s Softball College World Series.
