The Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education on Friday named Associate Superintendent Aurora Lora as superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools.
Her contract will be negotiated. Lora had been leading the district on a temporary basis since April.
The school board in April voted to part ways with district Superintendent Rob Neu. Neu had been superintendent since April 2014.
“I want to listen to what our stakeholders have to say, and I am in the process of creating advisory boards for parents, teachers, principals, and our northeast Oklahoma City community,” said Lora.
The parent advisory board will be coordinated through the Parent Teacher Associations District Council.
Before joining OKCPS, Lora was assistant superintendent for the Dallas Independent School District, executive director of PK-12 Schools for Seattle Public Schools, a middle and high school principal in Portland Schools and a teacher in Houston Independent School District.
Lora has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in education policy and management from Harvard.
