Oklahoma leads the nation in profit per employee among Fortune 500 companies, according to a DoFollow report using data from the 2024 Fortune 500 rankings.
Oklahoma companies reported an average profit per employee of $1,286,814, more than 10 times the national average of $126,824. The state outperformed the District of Columbia ($750,818) and Texas ($449,142), which ranked second and third, respectively. Even California, home to the most Fortune 500 headquarters, ranked fourth at $198,883 per employee.
The Fortune 500 ranks the largest U.S. companies by annual revenue, with 37 states hosting corporate headquarters. California leads with 57 Fortune 500 companies, followed by New York and Texas with 52 each.
Energy companies dominated the rankings, holding 13 of the top 20 spots, including three based in Oklahoma:
