The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber is part of a broad coalition united against two bills that would have disastrous effects on income-producing events and entities in Oklahoma and would severely curtail the rights of business owners and the ability of colleges to restrict guns on campuses. The following letter was sent to Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman and the rest of the state senate:

To: The Honorable Brian Bingman, Senate President Pro Tempore and Members of the State Senate
Date: April 25, 2016
Subject: HJR 1009 and HB 3098

The following organizations, businesses and entities would like to express significant concern with two pieces of gun legislation currently under consideration in the Oklahoma Senate – HJR 1009 and HB 3098.

The measures, if enacted would: 1) jeopardize the rights of businesses to keep guns from being carried onto their private property; 2) jeopardize the rights of event hosts held at public parks, recreational areas and fairgrounds to prevent weapons at economic impact events; 3) jeopardize the current ability of colleges to prohibit guns on campus; and 4) lessen the ability of law enforcement officials to protect the public’s safety. Until these issues can be addressed, we ask that these measures not move forward in the Senate.
