2018 legislative priorities released by Chamber

The Chamber’s board of directors recently adopted a legislative agenda for 2018 that will help local and state businesses thrive while sending a clear signal to companies considering relocation or expansion in the area that Oklahoma City is a great place to work, live, learn and play.

“This is a comprehensive set of public policy priorities that are crucial in creating a strong future for Oklahoma businesses,” said Rhonda Hooper, Greater Oklahoma City Chair. “Implementation of these programs has never been more important in order to continue to grow our economy.”

Priorities for the Chamber’s advocacy team in 2018 include supporting key economic development programs, enacting sentencing reforms, increasing teacher salary by at least $5,000 and more. Visit the Chamber’s advocacy page for a full list of priorities.

Chamber endorses Step Up Oklahoma plan

The Chamber’s board of directors endorsed a proposed plan to stabilize state revenue, reform government to increase efficiency, and raise teacher pay by $5,000 a year. The plan was developed by Step Up Oklahoma, a nonpartisan group of business, civic and community leaders, and contains measures to give lawmakers the tools they need to root out waste and allow for long-term thinking. The plan also includes an increase in the state’s revenue, and if enacted, it would immediately address the state’s ongoing budget shortfall.

Exhibit at the upcoming Greater Grads networking event

The Chamber’s Greater Grads program has been connecting companies to Oklahoma’s best college students and recent graduates for more than a decade. In 2018, the program will get a fresh update that will give you more opportunities to recruit for entry-level positions and internships at two Greater Grads Career Events throughout the year.

In the spring, the Chamber will hold RecruitOKC, a Greater Grads networking event, to give you a jump-start on meeting students looking for a job or internship in our community in the coming year. You can meet students in a relaxed and open setting, with the opportunity to promote your business, chat one-on-one and interview on-site. RecruitOKC will be held on Wednesday, April 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Jim Thorpe Museum (Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame), 4040 N Lincoln Blvd. Register to exhibit.

The Greater Grads Career Fair, previously held in the spring, will now be held in the fall. While the time of year might be different, you will still have the opportunity to connect with 500 students from around the state at this annual event. Save the date for the 2018 Career Fair, which will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. More information.
