There’s war and there is peace and right now in Oklahoma peace is reigning. The time to recognize those who still are in the service of our country is coming up on Oct. 3. The women and men of the U.S. Navy will have their annual Navy Birthday Ball to celebrate the 240th birthday of the Navy.

The black-tie event will be at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and public attendance would be welcome.

The ball will be marked by special Navy traditions, including the annual cake-cutting ceremony. A reception at 6 p.m. will be followed by the dinner at 7 p.m.

Guest speaker will be retired U.S. Navy Capt. Charlie Plumb, an American hero. He was a Navy F-4 pilot who was shot down over North Vietnam and spent 2,103 days as a prisoner of war. His message will resonate with guests of all ages.

The Navy Birthday Ball is sponsored by the Navy’s Strategic Communications Wing One at Tinker Air Force Base, the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and the Oklahoma City Navy League.

Tables for eight guests are available for $1,500 and individual tickets are $80 each. To attend, email register@okcchamber or call (405) 297-8921.
