12.5 million children in the U.S. are obese, nearly triple the number in 1980. These children deal with stigma and the risk of serious health problems. The American Academy of Pediatrics says 85 out of 100 kids with Type II diabetes are obese. CBS Correspondent Byron Pitts met an Oklahoma boy who refused to be counted and inspired his community along the way.

At its Feb. 28 meeting, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved $39,705 in grants to four metropolitan area nonprofit organizations. The grants, which were made through the Margaret Annis Boys Trust and the Literacy is for Everyone (LIFE) Initiative, will support beautification and literacy projects in central Oklahoma.

More than 15 percent of Oklahomans are living with diabetes, according to the Oklahoma Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. The cost of treating and managing this disease can be a heavy monetary burden, especially for individuals without access to quality health care. Thanks to recent grants from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation's Access to Health Care iFund program, several free, nonprofit clinics in central Oklahoma will be able to provide free and low-cost services for low-income and uninsured diabetics.
