InternOKC Program Enrolls Record Number of Participants

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

OKLAHOMA CITY, June 27, 2012 – The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber's InternOKC program, which launched on June 13, enrolled a record number of students in its seventh annual year. More than 380 students from 88 employers are participating in the 2012 InternOKC class, where interns will learn about the advantages of staying in Oklahoma City after they graduate from college.

"For a young professional, Oklahoma City offers an ideal balance, including great job opportunities, a low cost of living and a high quality of life," said Roy H. Williams, president and CEO of the Chamber. "The interns of today are the entrepreneurs and leaders of tomorrow, and it is important that they feel rooted in the Oklahoma City community."

The program gives interns the opportunity to hear from leaders in Oklahoma City such as Devon CEO Larry Nichols, former Mayor Kirk Humphreys and entrepreneur David Box. They will also learn networking and etiquette skills that will help them be more competitive in their future job search. Weekly luncheon topics include an outline of Oklahoma City's political scene, a session on sports and recreation options in the area, tips on pursuing goals and passions and an overview into Oklahoma City's cost-of-living advantages.

"Oklahoma City companies demand a well-educated workforce to meet their growing needs," Williams said. "InternOKC is a vital part of our efforts to attract and retain Oklahoma-educated college students and explain the benefits of starting their professional lives in Oklahoma City."
