Oklahoma County takes major step forward in criminal justice reform

Criminal justice reform efforts in Oklahoma County took a significant step forward this month with the first meeting of the new Criminal Justice Advisory Council, an interlocal government council designed to institutionalize cooperation and planning for the criminal justice system in Oklahoma County. At the meeting, Clay Bennett, chairman of the Oklahoma City Thunder and president of Dorchester Capital, was elected chair of the council.

The council was established following a recommendation of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber’s Criminal Justice Reform Task Force, and was called out as the most critical step for reform. Read more.

The council also announced that it is hiring a director to manage the newly formed council and its reform efforts. View the job posting.

Bricktown’s future highlighted at upcoming Chamber Forum

Bricktown’s evolution from abandoned warehouse district to a modern entertainment, commercial, retail and residential hub has been one of Oklahoma City’s best examples of how public-private partnerships can lead to exciting results. At the upcoming Chamber Forum, attendees will hear about the district’s ongoing growth from panelists who are deeply involved in the area’s development.

Panelists include Chad Huntington, general manager of Bricktown Water Taxi; Mallory O’Neill, director of district management with Downtown OKC; and Charles Stout, general manager of Bricktown Brewery. Attend the event on Dec. 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown to hear details about what’s in store for 2018 and beyond.

Tickets are $40 for Chamber members and $60 for nonmembers. Register online.
