Chamber releases 2017 legislative priorities

As the voice of business in the Oklahoma City region, the Chamber will be actively working to shape the policies enacted by Oklahoma’s elected officials at the State Capitol this year. In December 2016, the Chamber’s Board of Directors approved a comprehensive set of public policy priorities that are crucial to moving the Greater Oklahoma City region toward success.

Topics include protecting workers’ compensation reform passed and signed into law during the 2013 session, preserving key economic development incentive programs and increasing teacher salaries by at least $5,000 a year. Read a complete list of the Chamber’s priorities at www.okcchamber.com/legislative, and sign up to receive updates on the Chamber’s priorities throughout the legislative session at www.okcbusinessadvocate.com.

New video highlights Oklahoma City

The Chamber released a new relocation video at its recent State of the City event. The video, which is packed with stunning visuals and impressive accolades, highlights Oklahoma City’s growth and celebrates the city’s tremendous success during the past decade.

The video is part of the Chamber’s larger relocation efforts, which include a website, printed guide and weekly email newsletter and blog. View the video on the Chamber’s YouTube channel, and share with people who are interested in living in Oklahoma City.

MAPS 3 Bennett Event Center open at State Fair Park

On Jan. 5, civic leaders gathered to officially open the MAPS 3 Bennett Event Center at State Fair Park. This 279,000 square foot expo building has more than six acres of space under its roof and banquet space for up to 2,500 people.

The building is named after long-time civic leader Clay Bennett. Bennett, who is currently the Chamber’s vice chair of strategic planning and a past Chamber chairman, has served on the Oklahoma State Fair Board of Directors for more than 30 years.

The $58.7 million building is on the site of the former Travel & Transportation Building on the east side of State Fair Park. The Bennett Event Center and other exhibition buildings at State Fair Park are expected to have a total annual economic impact of approximately $136 million, Mayor Mick Cornett said at the ribbon cutting. Watch a video of the ribbon cutting.
